Can you tell me what you think about this maker mark "SM/1940"?

I have never seen it before and was wondering if it is legitimate or a reproduction?

These are post war, made immediately after the war from original parts. Maybe Russ knows what the SM/ signifies but the date is definately fiction. I have one also and they always seem to show up minus the scabbard. Regards
