I don't own one by this maker, so I cannot compare and the pictures are quite small to look at...

But motto-ed RZM only knifes by this maker have been observed and I don't see anything wrong from what I can see. Except maybe that it appears that the scabbard shows more wear than the knife, could be the pictures. The motto is indeed extremely deep.

Bigger pictures and close-ups would help a lot.

Best greetings,

Herman

It kind of looks like someone buffed out the blade and re-etched the motto. I've never seen one that deep either. do you have any close up photos of the motto?

I don't believe RZM numbers existed in 1933.

From the pics provided it looks like someone has heavily polished the blade around the motto, as you can see what looks to be un-polished areas surrounding it. Perhaps the motto has been re-darkened at some point more than usually seen, making it look thicker and deeper? I think the RZM date is 1938, not 1933. As Herman says, better pics would be helpful.

Russell

I can see the RZM 1938 from the picture....not 1933......and the motto...looks very strange to me...i mean it so deeply engraved. i think somebody engraved it a second time over on top of the old motto...or something >>>looks funny

There's no requirement for a 1938 dated knife to have a makers mark.

That is correct, Russell, there are about 15 known makers that made a motto-ed HJ knife without makersmark, only an RZM mark and often the year of production.
In Russ N's list they are called the moto-ed RZM only knifes.

Best greetings,

Herman
