I did not make it to the MAX this year, but went to visit with my friend, Janos, in Hungary. While there, and thank you Janos, I picked up this beautiful 1938 dated transitional Eickhorn HJ.

Here is the obverse

That is certainly one of the nicest Hitler Youth daggers I've seen recently.
Please note the lack of the word "Original" over the Eickhorn logo on this transitional piece. The omission of "Original" is infrequently noted on SA and SS transitional examples from this firm and no completely satisfactory explaination has ever come forth. However; The vast majority of collectors accept this as a legitimate factory logo variation.
I have an excellent SS example in my own collection with one of the nicest conditioned blades I've ever seen.

A superb Eickhorn 38 example you got John!

A real great score, congratulations!

Note that your knife also has the typical Eickhorn, rounded tip scabbard which makes it 100% textbook Eickhorn.

Best greetings,

Herman

Absolutely couldn't agree more, someone obviously got this piece & threw it in a sock drawer for 60 years. Well done John.
