At the Raleigh Militaria show today I spotted what you usually see about 500 times per show: An HJ lapel pin with cracked enamel .... or so I thought.

Turning it over, I find it is an un-used diamond for an HJ knife !!

I have had these described to me and once Ron Weinand drew me a great picture, but I never expected to see an un-used one intact.

IMO that's a hat badge rather than an HJ knife insert. The insert prongs are much thinner.

I agree with Houston - definately a hat badge as the prongs are far too thick to be a knife diamond. I'll try and find a pic of a knife diamond - I know I have some somewhere.

Also, a knife diamond with prongs this thick, and poorly fitted, would not demonstrate a 'springy' feel when pressed.
