Just got this nco portepee in and wanted some opnions. Part of me wants to try to clean it but i know better than to even attempt it. Did anyone ever clean one of these.
The Ball has a light layer of corrosion to the aluminum thread, and the strap has two spots of rust from the edged weapon it was attached to, threads are still nice and tight, real tight.

Here's a good shot of the whiteish film throughout the ball thread.

A dry toothbrush might get a lot of it if it's stuff on the surface. Realistically, I don't think something like Woolite and cold water would hurt the strap if it really bugs you. It's not like it's rare or very valuable and if you're gentle I don't think you'd hurt it. I wouldn't try washing the stem or ball though.

Hi Tim,
Thanks for the info i'll try a dry tooth brush on the ball, i didn't think i should get the ball wet being a wood core. I will try the woolite on the strap just to get the rust stain off of it, it is the first NCO portepee with a large ball i have had to date, like you said not rare!
I think if i take it slow it will be alright.

Thanks Again,

Eric
