I´ve posted this one maybe in the wrong section for edged weapons.

http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/...160093573/m/54710958

The thread is about an unusual triple hanger for a SA Dagger.

I´ve purchased this SA dagger at a local gun & militaria show recently. The only thing I´m wondering is the little leather loop of the triple hanger, whch secures the grip. The hanger and the belt loop are without doubt original. But the little loop somehow odd to me. Could it be original? Or was it added later, since it doesn´t match the leather, color and condition of the hanger and the belt loop? Is it period and original? Does anyone know if such snap fasteners with this particular marking was used for triple hangers? Or is it a modern repro? At least the little loop has the typical 70 years plus old leather smell, which is for me usually a good sign. What do you think? Any opinions are welcome!

It does look a little non-standard, but if it's a repro, it's an old one. The leather is a different softer type, but I have seen that smooth soft leather before on some early pre RZM SS vertical hangers. I think it's probably OK.

Any other opinions out there?

John

My guess is it's a late period replacement.

Nothing seems wrong to me here. I have seen the little grip straps very tight to very loose. The construction is OK in my opinion.

Remember some SA men who wore their daggers a lot and these things probably broke a lot and got replaced locally.

Dave

PS - IMO the very first 3-pieces just used a short strap with a buckle.

Thanks for your opinions, Gentlemen.

@John ... you´re right, the leather is very smooth and pliable, which I´ve never seen on a hanger before. But the leather smell is the one, which one expects from 70+ years old leather.
