Recently a SA short hanger was offered to me. I still did not buy it. For some reasons it looks spurious to me.
What is your opinion? every opinion appreciated.
BTW the leather does not smell new as known fakes but also does not smell like my unquestionable ones.

The casting of the buckle looks a little rough even for a 39 version but possibly real. The rivet is unusual, and I think they still painted them in 39. The leather stamping looks OK, year stamp is lighter, which I've seen before. Hard call in my opinion. John

Yes, for sure a hard call. That´s why I did show it here. IF this is a copy (and personally I do assume it) we have a hard time ahead of us....
I also do not like the rivet with the flat head and the odd reverse and not painted. I also do not like the rough buckle with a remarkable rough thorn (only the region of the peak is smoothened). Also the front and the reverse of the clip where the stamping is, looks like once extremely rough (rusty???), smoothened and then nickled. are there used orignal (once rusty) metal parts??
Any more opinion or observation appreciated.

The button on this one is painted on the smooth side. I think the stamping matches yours...look at the 3 of 39..has the distinctive little lip on it.

The casting isn't all that great on mine either.

So, My theory is the hanger is OK, perhaps the rivet has been replaced, maybe even during the period. I think the clip is fine, when they age they take on the uneven appearance.

Thank you very much for your effort and the detailed views on your thoughts concerning this hanger and your comparison hangers. The certain hanger now is much less spurious to me.

I agree--I don't like the rivet though-possible replacement. But--perhaps not-just late sub- standard quality.
