Here my latest purchase. A solid SA dagger of my favourite maker with nice patina, matching on all parts, looks untouched, an original in one piece ... no doubts about that.

However, this kind of hanger I´ve never seen before. It has a rectangular clasp instead of an oval one. Confused The little leather loop is missing (or was never there).

The leather looks and "smells" to be period. Also the typical signs of wear at the dagger ring look period to me. As I´ve seen quite some daggers and hangers in the meantime, I would say this is a period hanger. The only question is: can anybody confirm this rectangular clasp to be period? Or is it a fake?

Thanks for any opinions!

The leather looks like a helmet chinstrap or an equipment strap. I don't think there's any way of telling when it was put there but it does look like it's been there for years. I wouldn't worry about it.

IMO not an issue type strap for an SA dagger. I have seen watch fob straps that look like this.
