Since I m not familiar with vertical hangers for SA daggers, I was wondering if this is a period item or a fake? Any opinions and comments are welcome and appreciated! Thanks!

There were vertical hangers used with SA & NSKK daggers. Not many, but they are found.

I am suspicios of yours because of the "M8" marking on the back. If anything, it should be an "L" marking. Otherwise it looks like it is coming apart and was repaired.

@Z06Berlin, imo you cannot compare your hanger with another kind of hangers. The type you have was period DRGM copy protected so the hanger shown by ivbaust has a totally different configuration.
Due to the smudge on the hanger of ivbaust (what should it hide?), to the bright rivets, the newlike stitching on the bottom of the hanger (also no dirt when compared to the rest of the hanger) and the already mentioned marking M8 I personally would highly doubt it´s periodness.
I do attach three of my SAhangers which are period with out any doubt and all are marked (sorry, do not want to show details of the marks not to suport any fakers).

ZO6,

Very nice. There are two versions of that hanger. One (Yours) is built so the carrying ring fits through a slow in the strap. If you are open to selling that one, please email me at Dave@germandaggers.com

On the other version, the strap snaps around the grip. This second version can be reconfigured so that the dagger can be worn hanging at an angle as well as vertically.

Also, both versions of the hanger are found in black leather. I have one like yours on an SS dagger and one of the second type on an NSKK dagger.

IMO the RZM never officially approved any vertical type hanger for the SA made in the standard RZM SS style.
However, there are many unofficial types, and each must be judged on its individual merit or lack of merit. Most are unmarked on the leather but may have a marked snap.

I agree, Houston, although somewhere in my memory I think I remember seeing an SA one marked like the SS ones but without the SS Mark.

There are quite a few RZM marked NSKK 3-piece hangers and some RZM marked SA 3-piece hangers.

First of all, thanks to all for your replies! And thanks for the pics. Never saw such hangers before. Thanks for sharing these pics!

@ Wotan: The rivets have been completely covered with this "smudge", when I bought the dagger. As the leather was very dry, I applied some Renwax. Then the smudge on the rivets started to come off. To me it looks like somebody applied shoe polish on the hanger, which now comes off the rivets. When I applied the Renwax on the leather the cloth was slightly dark brown. I assume some of the shoe polish came off the leather.
