Nats,

Yes, it does look like a nice, unusual piece.
I would imagine all the wappen and Reichsadler are handpainted, correct? They all seem to be in very nice condition with no bad scratches, etc. Someone must be asking a small fortune for this? It'd be great to study this with a good, large magnifying glass. Is it something you're adding to your collection?

Best regards!

Bill

Hello Bill,I just collect SA and NSKK daggers,I just posted it in case someone was interested in seeing it.
In his discription,he says that only 15 were made, you are right all the wappen are not under the glaze.
The bidding has reached €800,but the reserve has not been reached.
Regards Stan

Thanks Stan.

I'd be hard-pressed to buy something like this without looking at it, sitting right there in front of me ... has anyone else ever seen this particular example or one of the other surviving pieces, before? Period newspaper or periodical articles covering the occasion? Those would certainly be good things to see before jumping into those waters ... 800 pounds is a lot of money for some of us and we'd all like to be on the good side of investments - especially these days. Smile

Thanks again!

Bill

its a real miesson plate no doubt, the decoration is anyones guess, however personally i dont like it, that said , the pewter nurnburg plate is similar in displaying shields of service, so its posssible . if the decor is beneath the glaze it has a chance, if it placed on top, forget it, sadly the buyer may only yell once in their possesion

Phil,

Agreed, while the inkwell itself is a good example of fine Meissen porcelain, sadly the decoration is post-war.

Whoever the artist was, the painting is top quality work and the guy is a real talent. They remind me of the style that was found on those original Wehrmacht plates and serving platters from a long while back, remember those beauties? I believe they originated from somewhere in the UK? The artwork could rival the best of model-kit boxtops, really brilliant.

It's a shame that this guy's talent was put to this end, fooling unsuspecting collectors...
I really hate to see an artist go hungry, but this man's work has helped fleece thousands of dollars from the unwary. Such is life. Smile

Have fun but be careful out there!

Nats,

Thanks for sharing the inkwell. In addition to comments made by others, I have some doubts about it.

What is the documentation to prove only 15 were made and the occasion they were made for?

The front swastika is painted on the upturned edge instead of the flat surface. In my opinion, this looks odd as if the artist ran out of room. Would Meissen approve this?

Genuine Meissen inkwells are expensive to begin with, but I think the addition of post-production art, no matter how well done, negatively affects the price.

The seller is offering a 31 day guarantee. Caveat emptor!
