This is one of the 2 Allach plates I lately purchased. Not very rare but nice anyway. Are these plates already faked as it seems like prices are raising when it concerns Allach.

I saw one fake of the 42 plate years ago and it was very crude and wouldn't fool too many.

Thanks Erich.

I was rather confident with it but I'm not an expert at all, so always good to get confirmation about originality. The other plate concerns the Julfest plate of 1943, the one with the eagle, which is probably the most popular of these plates.

Frederico,

I think the prices are steadily increasing because of greater interest and demand for original pieces of SS porcelain in the collecting market.

Most of the fakes you'll encounter are "oddball" items, things you don't normally see in the books or period catalogs. Do be careful with unfamiliar plates, cups and saucers
and things like that. Those seem to be the types of things that our friends get burned on the most.

There are quite a few of our collecting buddies out there who don't want to buy any books but are ready to jump directly into an unfamiliar area, either because there's money to be made or, they're just too cheap to spend a few dollars and actually read and digest what they purchased. To those that try to get by like this, it serves them right if they get stung! Big Grin

Anyone who's really interested in this great area would do well to bide their time - study,
look at lots of known originals, talk to knowledgeable guys on the different forums and
never, never rush headlong into anything. It's always the same old story ... Cool

It's always a good idea to get feedback from savvy collectors, as you did, right here on these forums. Most of these fellas have seen and studied a good share of Allach over the years.

Good score with your plate and please keep sharing so that younger, newer collectors can learn and grow from your posts too. Smile

Many thanks and best of luck!

Bill

Bill,

Thanks for your feedback.

Apart from a copy of the original Allach catalogue I do not know about the existence of literature about Allach porcelain. Is there any other literature available?

The allachporcelain.com website shares fantastic reference material however.

Regards,

Frederico

Nice plate!

Try SS Allach Porcelain by Michael J.Passmore and Tony L. Oliver. It's out of print from 1972, but you can find originals at Amazon.com or abebooks.com for several hundred dollars. Make sure to get one with the original dustjacket.

Yes, the Pssmore book is the only reference out there to date and a collector piece in it's own right. Here's a photo of my 43 plate although not a good one.
