Hi Guys,
I have been offered this stein for sale. I don't know anything about steins at all or the Luftwaffe for that matter. Can anyone tell me more about it? Is it authentic? Is it a personal peice? Souvenir type peice? Is it period made? What might a fair value be on this stein? The people that own it inherited it from their brother in law when he passed and they are looking to sell it. Below is the description from the seller.
Thanks,
Jeff
It has a picture of Leutnant Heinrich Ehrler on it( It is a head & shoulder shot of him in full uniform)His name& rank are beside the picture in script. (He was a flying ace with 208 kills to his credit.) Above his name is a silver eagle in full flight carrying a swastika. Above this and just below the rim in sky blue lettering is TG5. I think it was his squadron. On the other side of his picture is an black & silver Iron Cross(A swastika is in the centre and 1939 is on the lower arm.) Above it are 4 vertical gold bars and above that in red script lettering is wording "Reichs- -- --( I can't quite remember the exact phrasing- something for the Reich. Above this and just below the rim are 8 more words in black. I don't know what they mean.

The stein is cream in colour on the outside & sky blue inside. There is a gold band 1 inch up from the base and raised oak leaves & a band of dots encircle the top. Raised dots follow the shape of the handle on both sides.. A gold eagle is resting on a swastika where you would place your thumb.

The markings on the bottom: Freudenstadt -There is a small 'X' sunk into base below this name.

RZM: black lettering surrounded by a black circle & "310" sunk into base 2 black Iron Crosses- top one has oak - bottom has lettering(OdR) looks like 2 Eagles in flight carrying a swastika - one has a gold sword behind it
1 white dancing bear on a gold backgroundshield below him with markings-unknown

Hi guys,
Thanks for the information....here is some additional information that was posted over at WAF regarding this stein.

These steins were prodiuced in the 70s and were sold thru various publications such as the Shotgun News and at some shows. Roger Steele sold many of these back in the 70s for a little over $100 each. Steins were made for Luftwaffe aces, Navy aces and Panzer aces.

According to Bob Hritz, these were manufactured by a guy in the mid west (Wisconsin I believe). I imagine they are somewhat collectible in their own right as fantasy pieces. I do not see them for sale these days. As for value....perhaps $50?
