Is there anyone trying to track the number of authentic SS Full Rohms that exist today?
Does anyone know the approximate number?

Amongst all of the experienced collectors and experts on this website there must be some who have some idea.
Why the hesitation to reply?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

The silence is most probably because no one knows enough to even hazard a guess.

It is one of the few daggers where there are original order numbers quoted in some references. One says 135,860 total including 9900 for the SS. Other references say that SA/SS HQs had until a certain date to confirm or change these numbers so I am not sure if the 9900 number is firm.

I appreciate your response Dave.
I would think that considering the rarity of these daggers, someone would attempt to catalog the number of existing Full Rohms - by owner, photo, etc.
I guess I am a little surprised that no one has done that. Perhaps it is due to the number of fakes out there?

Thanks again for your previous response.

One thing for sure, an authentic full Rohm SS dagger is rare. That word is often overly used in this hobby, but I feel safe in using it here. Rohm was branded a traitor and his death was the springboard for the SS to become the powerful organization it became. Most Rohm daggers were ground or disposed of. For any full Rohm dagger to have survived, especially an SS one, is a miracle of sorts. Uncle Heinrich, I'm sure, would have frowned gravely upon anyone he knew of who possessed one after the purge and the order to remove Rohm's name from the daggers.

Mike,

I have one - an Eickhorn beauty I got years ago from Gailen David.

I'm have assembled many spreadsheets on daggers, but where do you start with SS Rohms?

Tom Whittmann's SS book shows several and is perhaps the best place to start. Mine is on pages 70-71 and was owned by the winner of a DkG (for combat in the 5th SS WIKING Div in the retreat from the Ukraine). To my knowledge, this dagger is the only SS Full Rohm so far discovered that was owned by such a combat veteran and not a rear eschelon officer.

Really interesting responses. Thanks guys.
The more I read this website, the more I want to hold onto this rare dagger.

While dad and I never got along very well I always respected his 20 years of service, Battlefield Commission and promotion eventually to Lt. Col. While stationed in Taiwan and Kimoy he was personal friends with Generalissimo Shan Ki Chech (forgive the spelling) I have a military photo of them together in a large group shot. The photo is about three feet long.
Sorry for the bragging but I thought some of you might find it interesting.

Even with a broken top handle it is a beauty to me and unless I get an offer of a small fortune, I'll just keep it. It can only go up in value and I can still enjoy it.

This really seems to be an interesting hobby.
I have read enough on this site to know there are many, many fake daggers out there. So, while I have toyed with the idea of collecting, I am afraid I would just make some costly mistakes.

Thanks again for all the information,

Mike

Just imagine if all the guys that own Full Rohms on this site could show up at an exhibition with them and exhibit them side by side.
It would have to be the Hit Of The Show!
