The SS Dagger that Jonathan has for sale on our forum is a real beauty. After looking at the photos I'd like to ask for some feedback from some of you more experienced guys if I may;
1. It looks like a factory grind with very nice cross grain - agree?
2. Might this dagger have been turned in early after the purge due to the apparent high quality grinding and cross graining or did most all factory grinds come out this nice?
3. The burnish appears to be gone from the front inscription - over polishing?

Thanks in advance for the online class in "Advanced SS Roehm Dagger Characteristics"!

Mike

would the rohm inscriptions removal account for the very high/sharp ridge line???????

the dagger has been cleaned but not overly so, there is still burnishing in the motto.

sorry to disappoint you nick but if there appears to be a high ridge line it's due to the angle of photography.

It is a very nice dagger and fairly priced at that.
I have seen daggers being sold for more in a lesser condition.
Go see some of the daggers that are presently being sold on the big dealer's web site ? Wink

Thank you gentlemen for your responses. It certainly looks like a fine piece. I know that even the best photos can often make the subject look different than it actually is. I figured the appearance of ridge lines was a photo - related issue. The burnish is also one of those things subject to camera angle and light.
Again, a nice dagger and I believe Pat is right when he states that it is well worth the price.

i was not knocking your dagger i just wondered if the removal of a rohm inscription would change the geometry of the blade making the spine sharper/higher
i think it could

Mike, as the order to have the inscriptions removed more or less stated immediately, i think that the lucky ones that had their daggers sent to a factory for removal most always had a quality job done..all the lazy man, partials etc...if we could have a time machine..! i think you would find these were done at home, or a workshop,(even a backyard or two) decidedly non professional, with some inscriptions removed better than others..
