OK, now for the question, Anybody ever seen an asterisk marking like that on the inside of the bottom crossguard? Any Idea as to what it means? 3FL

Interesting Louie.

I checked my copy of Fisher Reference. On patges 58 - 64 of mine, it shows some of the cross guard interior marks, and this one is not listed. The reference does go on to say that we now know most dagger companies simply assembled daggers from parts manufactured by other companies.

I have heard of the asterisk being used on Klaas Army daggers, but not SAs, and especially not inside the cross guard. Perhaps someone else has.

Moreover, I checked foundry forge mark on the blade. I cannot find a cross reference for a circled "A" with the number seven.

Circled "A" with number nine is Sptizer. With number 19 it could be Hugo, Muller, Spitzer, or Wingen. With number 24 could be Weyersberg.

Obviously, there is a lot about this hobby that we still don't know and can learn about. That keeps it fun!
