Hi I'm a new boy on the block who has been nursing a Full SA Eickhorn Dagger for the past 60 years.Brought home from the war especialy for me by my late Favourite Uncle. For many reasons from Boy to Man it has always been
my prized possesion.I'M now Retired and events dictate reluctantly we must part. Was given good advice from an admirer of this site, to ask your honesy opinions on it's true value? it's uncleaned has some oxidation on the blade, also a tiny tip of the blade was removed on entry into the country to qualify it as a Souvenir. Best Advice please. ![]() |

Hello George, and welcome to GDC.
I am not an expert on Rohm daggers, but yours appears to be 100% genuine to my eye. Again, the more experienced collectors will weigh in with a more informed opinion. Eickhorn made Rohm daggers and this is especially well documented. Also, the placement of the trademark in relation to the crossguard looks good (i.e. not too far away). It appears yours has the small oval Eickhorn mark that was used in 1933-1934. The mark Eickhorn used the next year (1934-1935) is similar, but has what some collectors call the "rabbit ears on the squirrel." On the blade itself, it can be polished and cleaned. Will that affect the etching to some degree? Of course, but it will also clean up the blade. Some collectors will be of the mind that the blade should not be polished at all and left alone--and that is a totally acceptable thing to do as well. In any case, it your property and you may do with it what you like. Don't attempt to polish it with a dremmel tool or anything like that. You can start out by cleaning the blade using Simichrome, but do not rub the paste into the etched areas. Also, their are some very skilled "dagger smiths" that can weld new tips onto blades. Don Swanson is one such man, but I don't have his phone number anymore. He lives in the States--someone here might be able to help. I saw an RLB blade that he had fixed by re-welding the tip, and you could hardly tell. Cheers. |
