Whilst I generally understand Nebenfarbe (secondary colours used on eppaulettes) for the Wehrmacht Heer, I have an eppaulette with a configuration I do not understand.

Waffenfarbe is dark green, Nebenfarbe is Bright Red, but eppaulette lacks Heeresverwaltung insignia, or inner green piping inside the first loop of silver braid (which is the normal configuration for army administration officials).

Is this another branch of service? (Luftwaffe, Kreigsmarine, etc)

Any advice would be appreciated.

David!

Don't worry about the button. I added it (even though it is actually the wrong size) for display purposes.

This is definitely a period piece, but of what I have no clue. Could it be Army Administration, pre 1934? (when the HV system used in the war was started).

This would make sense, except Bright Red didn't become a Nebenwaffe until 1936, according to my sources.

Could it be a military officer performing administrative duties (perhaps, whilst recuperating from wounds), or is it something simpler?

Laurence,

What responsibility is the red nebenfarbe within the LW administrative stream?

David!

Hi David

Here you go:

Red secondary nebenfarbe:

General Administrative Service (Allgemeiner Verwaltungsdienst);
Construction Administrative Service (bauverwaltungdienst or Bautechnischer Verwaltungsdienst);
Agricultural Service (Landwirtschaftdienst);
Surveying Service (Vermessungsdienst)--renamed Surveying-technical Administration Service;
Technical Machine Service (Maschinetechnischer Dienst)
Technical Electric Service (Elektrotechnischer Dienst)

Laurence,

Thanks for that. All my reference material is Wehrmacht Heer. I have virtually nothing on the other branches of service.
