Did the palm tree and swastika ever appear on the uniform (maybe medals or badges?)? I have heard of postage stamps with this emblem.

Thanks,

Rod

Hi Rod, Yes indeed the palm tree/swas. insignia was an official insignia in the form of a sleeve patch in BeVo for Sonderverband 288. There was also an un-official stamped badge that was worn. These are both extremely rare and often faked. Use caution when you see them. Also un-official were many bits and pieces of 'trench art' and personally contrived items attributed to the efort in N. Afrika. Some original, some fake/fantasy. Use your judgement. Wink

here is a photo with the patch (unfortunately not so complete!) of Sonderverband 287. The vehicles also had these markings on them and even the sport clothing wore this special insignia

Beautiful Badge! Dan Fisher had some insignia related to this unit at last years SOS. Stunning pieces and they wern't goin' cheap. I love the panzer officer pouring drinks for the men and no skulls on his collar tabs. Great photo.
