Hi Guys,
I need some help! Can anyone give me an idea as to what a Red cross flagbearer`s gorget would sell for. Many thanks in advance. Dion Even the Gods are helpless against stupidity! |

An original Red Cross Flagbearer's Gorget in Exc.++ to mint condition would be from $7,500 / $8,000. Be sure that it is original and has not been reworked.

Hi Rich,
Thanks for your answer mate, its appreciated. I went on to a website the other day in the US, and there was one selling for $7500; HOWEVER, its on a well known site that doesnt really sell much because the stuff listed is just WAAAAAY to expensive, and not at all market related?? I`m not so sure that these sell for that kinda money I mean, I know they`re very scarce, but hell, that much?? Dion Even the Gods are helpless against stupidity! |

By the way, it is 1000% original and untouched

What is the color of the felt on the plate. My screen is not the best and I can not tell if all of the frosting is on the chain. Is there some ware on the high surfaces of the flags?
These gorgets do go for a substantial amount in exceptional condition. Gorget collecting is not only frustating due to lack of original quality pieces but also very expensive. The very attractive red cross gorget is one of the more affordable gorgets available. Richard Kuchta |

Hi Rich,
I think I`ll Let the pics do the talking Also, you did confuse me a little in your second thread, when you mentioned that these are the more affordable ones, cause in the first thread you said they go for between $7500 and $8000: ? That in my eyes is not really affordable Seeing as there are many types out there that turn around between $1200-1700; Dion Even the Gods are helpless against stupidity! ![]() |

The pictures show excellent detail on the gorget. The backing has the correct material.
There are gorgets that sell for $35,000 and up. The rare gorgets are sometimes only one or two originals known. Congratulations, sounds like you got a real bargain. Richard Kuchta |

Dion There was one table at the MAX who had three of them. All were going for 7,500.

You must really know what you are buying when you are purchasing gorgets. There is not enough data in any of the publications to help you make a safe purchase. The recent group of reproduction gorgets from Europe are extremely good; however, they have not got everything correct. The best method to obtain the proper data and knowledge about the gorget you want to purchase is to actually handle and see an original.
How many red cross flagbearer's gorgets were sold at the show? Richard Kuchta |

I recall Maederer had one for sale for $7,500 on his site for over a year...till it finally sold.
IMO...It's not an easy one to sell. And the way sales were at the MAX I doubt any sold there for the prices quoted here. In case nobody noticed lately prices are getting soft on the higher end production items. Here is an example of a chained SS dagger in the classifieds. http://daggers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/748105472/m/2250057575 So if a chained SS dagger can't bring $4,800 now, I doubt a Red Cross gorget could get 6K. BTW, Dion I concur with Richard, it's a nice original example. Regards, -serge- |

What a Super DRK Gorget - Congratulations on a great find(!)
A rare one, up in the stratosphere in pricing. It has the 'proper' brownish colored backing, which I have seen on 3 other original DRK Gorgets. (1) For interest, what are the size dimensions of the DRK emblem in the center? Great item ... it's a keeper! ... Txs, Dave/dblmed |

Nice gorget - I'd hold onto it.
I don't accept the argument about high priced items tumbling out of bed, if the chained ss in the classifieds had been an early nickel silver with correct unmarked blade it would have sold quickly enough. |

Thanks for all the comments guys, its really appreciated! Although, I must say, this does`nt quite fall into my collecting catogory, so I`m hoping to exchange it for something that will
Dave, the measurments are as follows: H= 26.9mm W= 21.2mm Give or take .1mm I measured with a vernier, so it should be pretty much accurate Dion Even the Gods are helpless against stupidity! |

Thanks Dion,
It is fascinating to check the measurements of the central "main" Enamel-Logo-Feature of a Gorget, and then compare it with other known medals, pins, etc. for the same organization. Your DRK is so scarce (rare) that I wanted to see if the central measurements were similar to the DRK pins and cap badges - or whether a whole new "Enamel" was made up specifically for the Gorget...
