I have aquired an unusual looking headgear from an Estate Sale. This is an extremely weird looking item. On the top is a piece which had either a spike or a plume and on the front of the hat is what appears to be a face plate of some type. Also shows where a emblem of some type once was which was what appears to have been a skull and cross bones. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone has an idea and could let me know as to what this is along with an other information on this piece. If needed I can provide more photos, just send me an email to www.gregatutd@yahoo.com

Greg,

Your helmet is an old fraternal lodge helmet. these were made out of bits and pieces of old military helmets and new parts. Just like every band helmet had an old M1872 eagle device from obsolete US spike helmets. You can find these illustrated in early 20th century regalia catalogs. I hope this helps.

I bought this one at a junk store in Clarksville, GA around 1985.
