This armband was mixed in with a lot of American WW2 and German WW2 materials that came straight out of a trunk at an estate sale auction. Every other item was genuine and un'played' with.

This looks German to me both in materials and construction.

What could it be?

i remember seeing something along those lines in Germany when i was stationed there.it's unissued as there would be a stamp after the Nr. i believe at the time that it was a variation on a theme.the GDR were conducting a nuclear disaster scenario and these(or a version of these..) were on armbands of civilians monitoring traffic flow.

Not certain, but I believe the triangle device indicates the West German Civil Defence. So, possibly an armband for that agency.
