Ok, we´ve heard what many of the men did during the war on another thread. Let´s hear it for the women, because behind every succesful man is a woman, right?
So, my Mom´s Mom worked at Lockheed on the assembly line for the P-38. If I remember correctly, she installed hydraulic lines and electrical. Dad´s Mom was a stay at home Mom with 3 kids, but volunteered in the USO in L.A. when she had some extra time. She helped with food/drinks. Anyone else´s? |

Well,
My Grandmother went in to the cigaret business. Cigarets were severely rationed, I am told, so Grandma got a small rolling machine and made her own. It appears that loose tobacco was not hard to get. Family legend has it that she had a little barter business going. Dave |

My mom lived in Warsaw during all WW2 - 09.01.39 until the fall of the Warsaw Uprising when Germans kicked out all remaining civilians, anyway they were no more place to live ground-leveled Warsaw.
She was a kid and kid’s job was to grab and bring home anything eatable. Dad's mom was deported to Russia with 3 kids after 09.17.39 when Soviet Army invaded eastern part of Poland (grandfather was shot in spot by NKVD). All family was separated and reunited in Warsaw after war. |
