Just finished reading the book on Michel Hollard and what a fascinating true story.
I'm certain that many courageous men have fought bravely for their country but are still unknown.
I'm glad that Hollard's name has not been forgotten.

Pat.. I was born in Oz, I can see why you've highlighted this article. I've been living in the UK for about 7 years now... I'm sure this story will wind a few of my British friends up with this hate/hate, (love)? thing you French and Brits have going on. Smile

Indeed, he also received one of Britain's highest military award in recognition for his actions.
France and England do have a love/hate relationship but they were the best of allies in WWI and in the Crimean War.
When working together, they are also capable of the greatest achievements.
Just to name a few joined Franco-British sucess stories: the Concorde, Airbus that has even surpassed Boeing, Ariane Space program in French Guyana, the Queen Mary II, the mightiest of all ships and of course, the greatest of achievements, the Tunnel under the Chanel.
When you think of it, it ain't so bad afterall.
I was in London last October and staying in South Kensington. I was extremely surprised to see that many persons actually spoke French.
I have found people in London very generous, polite and very helpful.
My wife and I will be going back again next year, since we loved it so much.
BTW, it ain't true that you don't eat well in London. All of the restaurants that we've been to were just great. Cool
My wife even bought couple of books on the British Royal Family. Big Grin
Since I'm French and that I've got a cousin that lives in London ( she married a guy from Scotland ), I can honestly say that both countries admire one another but for different reasons. The French admire the English for their "business sense" and great culture and the English admire the French for their "way of life". Wink
When I was in London, I saw a football game being played by ****nal and the crowd's favorite player was...........Thierry Henry ( french player ).

What about Eric Cantona when he played for Manchester United.
No, it ain't so bad !

No, it's not so bad...

It does make me laugh though, this love/hate thing. My British friends make comments about the French but none of them seem to be able to back anything up. I was also in Paris twice recently for work and the French kept asking me if I was Australian or British, (I work for an Australian and a Canadian company) and I know they were asking just to make sure that I wasn't British. I was too scared to let them know that I have dual nationality... Cool

London's pretty multicultural, there's something like just over 200 languages spoken!!! Eek

... and as for Thierry Henry... what a champion!
