I know some of you guys have actually visited the places we have read about in the history books, The Feldernhalle, the brown house, the Berghof, the Zeppelin field etc. In inquiring at local tour agencies there seems to be no one willing or able to take one on tours of, for lack of a better term "the Nazi places". Have any of you come across a tour that can accomadate someone interested in these places. I understand the German's need to not turn these places into shrines, nor do I seek to, but they are nonetheless historically relevant...........Thanks Jimmy

Jimmy,
Thorsten, a fellow member, has personally taken Craig and others through Wewelsburg Castle and offered to do the same for other members. I think he works right in the Castle. That's a start...maybe other members know of a tour of the other places? Mark "I'm your huckleberry, that's just my game" |

If you're in Berlin, there is a Third Reich sites walking tour that you can take but I would suggest picking up a copy of Lonely Planet's Berlin guide, which lists all of the places that the tour covers and it's far more satisfying discovering these places on your own and you avoid the bored, impatient tour guide who rushes you from place to place in order to get back to the next group of waiting American tourists.
If you are going to Munich, the same applies and bypass the escorted tour. IF you are going to Nurenberg, there is a very good service that is knowledgeable regarding the Nazi era and manages to bring the past to life. That is a tour I did take and it was the highlight of the trip. |
