I thought I would start a thread about my quest for a 69 GTX.

Way back in 1969, I bought a brand new 69 Plymouth GTX. It was automatic with 440 engine, 3:91 gear and no "frills" (eg. no power steering, power brakes, A/C..).

First, a look at the original... It was love at first site. Blue with black interior, sleek, smooth, seductive, curves all in the right places, and most important... fast. Big Grin Big Grin

Now, almost 40 years later, I'm looking for another one.

The opposition's view. Big Grin

F70x14 tires in front and H60x14 on the rear.

She ran between 13.90 and 14.10 in the 1/4 mile at 100-105 mph. Not bad for a big car with stock engine.

My mechanic. She was so good I married her. Wink

Note the gold coloured radiator. Back then, we would strip the paint off the rad. Since it was brass, it would shine up nicely with brasso.

After much searching on the net, a friend of mine sent me a link of one for sale in Phoenix.

Not the same colour but a beautiful "survivor". All original to include factory original paint except for the right front fender. Thirty-six thousand original miles with only 2 owners that both lived in Phoenix. Power everything, A/C and kept in a climate controlled garage.

I called the dealer on a Sunday and he agreed to hold it for me for 24 hours while I checked on shipping costs, insurance, etc. But on Monday afternoon, I got an e-mail from him telling me that it was sold... Frown

That same friend then found this one. A gorgeous restoration with vinyl roof, power everything and Super Trac Pak with 4:10 Dana.

I called the owner but he changed his mind. Can't say I blame him. But I still left my name and phone number just in case...

Back to the Phoenix car...

In my searching, I saw it advertized on another site with a different phone number. So I called. Turned out it was the seller (not the dealer) who proceeded to tell me that it was sold but..... the guy who bought it might want to sell it to buy a... are you ready???? A Chevy!!!! Well, I guess there's no accounting for taste. Big Grin Big Grin

So I called the current owner in Colorado. Turns out that yes, he might consider selling it to buy a Chevy but that he was on his way to the airport to catch a plane to go on vacation with his wife to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. He would call me when he got back to talk about it.

To be continued....

That's really a shame Bernie because as long as vehicles down here are protected from the suns rays climatic damage is usually minimal.
I am currently driving an 18 year old Corvette.
The paint, interior etc are all original and still in very good condition. The underside exhibits no signs of rusting whatsoever.
That's one of the reasons the military uses a large area near Tucson as a long term storage area for surplus aircraft.

Try these guys out.

You will pay through the teeth though. But that should be no problem because you collect Third Reich and it isn't cheap either.

It is interesting that you mentioned Hemming Motor News. That publication started in Quincy about 6 blocks from my father's house. I used to walk by it coming home from Jr. High School everyday during the school year in a little corner building that reminded you of the corner food store. Small world.

PS: The chevy guy has the right idea. I still have my original 69 SS/RS Camaro!

Bought my cousins 1969 Roadrunner in 1972 for $1,300.00 Pristine condition with 18,000 miles on it. B5 Marina Blue, 383, Automatic, Bench Seat. Had one race with it and beat a 69 Dart 340 Swinger but not by much as those little 340s could get you on top end. Drove the car until it started rusting in the quarter panels and sold it. I really miss that Mopar.

DD,

That's one of the sites I monitor on a regular basis.

Off to Moparfest in August.
