Hey guys,

Here are some photos of a very historic German propeller. It comes from a Fw-200 Condor, shoot down over Iceland in WWII, by a US Army Aircorps P-39 of the 33rd Fighter Squadron and P-38 from the 27th F.S. This was the first German Aircraft shoot down by the Americans in WWII!

At the Air Force museum, they have a 20mm bullet, recovered from the P-38. Well..that is all nice and dandy....but we got 1 of the Fw-200 propellers! It came into the nets of an Icelandic fishing ship. The condition is absolutelly amazing! Looks like the hub could be restored after 55 years on the ocean bed.

One of my best friends, a commecial diver just bought a side-scan sonar ($100.000 toy) and we will go hunting for more relics of this historic plane.

Note how 1 of the blades is bent forward? That means that the Engine was turning at a high RPM when it hit the water, due to the centifugals force tendency do bend the blades forward. If the engine was spinning at a low rpm, the blade would be bent backwards.

Me proudly posing with the prop. In my country....the old saying "buy the item and not the story" is not true. There are only a handfull of collectors here, worthy of being called Advanced, so there is no market for fake stuff.

Facinating condition of the prop hub. I can see that going through a shop and getting an "Airworthy" stamp!

Tommy,

Sorry to say, but that is a "Faked" GPW 1942. I bought it of this "simple minded" guy I know a little. Finding an original WWII jeep in good condition is extremely hard in Iceland.

Once I had bought and brought it into the hangar, I inspected it with help of "The All American Wonder" Vol 1+2, which I recommend you buy....if you dont have it.

I turned out that this was a CJ-2A 1947, faked into a military jeep. The guy even welded in a GPW "U" frame bit under the radiator! I tried to return it to the seller, but ended up taking the guy to court!

Took almost 1 1/2 years, but I won the case 100%

I have found another one back home, trying to get it.

Regards

Hinrik

Paul,

Ha ha...you are so right you would not beleive it! I got stuff in storage in USA, Holland, UK, England, all over Iceland and if counting the daggers I bought from you....Canada as well....haha.

My BSA 1942 Motor bike is in the aircraft hanger...along with too much nice stuff!

I just got a call from a good friend....so much WWII stuff being "thrown" away here in Iceland! Lots of US and UK radios from WWII!

working on saving some of it............
