For those of you who have been around awhile, you may recall that I quit this stupid hobby over a year ago. YEP! Sold off my ENTIRE collection of mostly MINT pieces
 ... Swore that I was through collecting. Well ... If you dont think this hobby is a hard habit to break ... gaze at the following 4 pics (apologies for the poor quality). Gordon, I hear ya'. I think that the catalyst that'll get me out of the hobby would be a significant loss. I've always mantained that a fire or theft would end it for me. And it would. I'd collect my seguro money and bail. I guess i'd start to collect yo-yos after that

Really though, I believe that the biggest threat to the hobby, in terms of fellow collector beign turned off, is the proliferation of reproductions. I recently broke into badge collecting as some of you may know. Frist an IAB, then another, then a minsweeper, then a destroyer. I had concerns about the destroyer, which the badge is controversial because of it's hardware setup. Even though it is likely a legitimate piece, it's still enough to leave a sour taste in my mouth. And even though it only cost $200, the whole epsisode caused me to question my involvement in the hobby. I can really see how a fake RK can trun people off. The loss of $6000 is enough to force one out for good.

Reproductions of the more valuable pieces seems to be on the rise. The "price" of collecting the good stuff is having to learn more and more about what you collect. In addition, there are scam artists who have real pictures but no actual goods so you need to take precautions and know from whom you are buying.
The above applies to anything of high value from Tiffany glass through lead model figures through pottery to antique firearms, etc. Dave |

It's a great hobby and a welcome break from the day to day. I've seen several guys quit over the years, in my experience most have returned after a break. Once into your blood no other hobby compares. So glad you're back. You are an asset to the hobby!!  |

I NEVER QUIT,I HAVE THINED OUT BUT I AM BACK NOW IN MORE DETAIL.A ZA PIN WITH IT'S OWN ORGINAL CASE,ONE OF MY BEST FINDS IN 2007.I ALSO WON'T SPEND ANY MONEY WITH ANY BODY I DON'T KNOW WELL.
