Hand carved ivory top and inlaid SS runes, ivory bands and silver swaztica. Sooner or later I will find a picture of it in some high General's hands!

Hopefully you'll find a period photo out there.
I'll keep my eyes opened.

Was there any story that went with this when you purchased it?
Also what material is the stick metal or wood?
Does it disassemble and whats the overall length?

Possible Himmler item?!

Mark, You know how stories go...

I have heard of this "stick", or one like it.
Does this specimen reside with you?
Very interesting to say the least.
Cheers, Pauli

if the finial is ivory, then i would say this has very little ageing, ivory darkens with time to a almost yellow patina. this coulsd ofcourse be the flash of the camera. i would love to see closer more clear pictures. im not decrying it by the way, just my personal concern.

Yes, I own it. I purchased it from Tom Johnson who got it in a large buy with Ron a couple of years ago. Due to the intricate carving on the head and the inlay of silver and ivory it appears to be a private work commissioned by an SS officer of some high rank.

The shaft is wood (Oak?) and the silver is hand inlaid in the swaz and the runes as is the ivory and parallel silver bands.

I also think it was something Himmler would have wanted to own.

The ivory does have the yellowish tint as it should be as it aged. There are small age fractures in the crown head so it is very old...back to the 1930-1940's era. I will take more natural light pictures and you can see the aging.

Thanks for all the opinions. One picture of Himmler holding this and I am a happy guy...unless it was Heydrich's. In that case I would be off the charts!

Congratulations on a great war trophy Mark!
I'll see what 411 I turn up from my "old timer" source.
(he mentioned that he had owned this swagger stick, or one similar, @ one time?)
Cheers, Pauli

Yes, it was a joint find that they did together and was posted on this site and I inquired right away about it. It's like Texas Hold 'Em. Looks too right to be wrong.

Since Himmler was so very intolerant of deviation from uniform and swords (Sepp Deitrichs), it is hard to understand who would have used this against his orders that all personal embellishments were not allowed, as it is obviously a military uniform accoutrement and not a civilian device.

Heydrich could have gotten away with it, so could Himmler...I think there is a VERY short list after that. That's my supposition, knowing the SS and Himmler's ways.

Robert, I agree..I don't think the Waffen SS would have need or interest in this item. It looks totally Allg. SS to my eyes. Those were the 'true believers'.

Mark,
Saw the post on WAC by Wewelsburg stating there are pictures in A. Hayes book.
You said you were looking to see a photo from this reference book and this book was on hand so here it is off page 226.

Thanks Dean, the only difference I can see is that the example I have is highly carved on the head with Heer dagger like oak leaves. It is all hand done as each leaf is slightly different. Other than that, they are twins.

How could I get a copy of the Hayes book? I am not familiar with it.

Many thanks,

Mark,
I think this book is still in print so it's not too hard to find.
Amazon or Wittmann has copies or sometime you can find a great deal on Ebay.
Maybe your local bookstore could get you a copy so you won't have to pay shipping.
ISBN:0-7643-0046-6
Title: SS Uniforms,Insignia & Accouterments-
A study in photographs

Mark, My source claims HH's stock was monogrammed with his name? He Further said there was plenty of photo documentation of him w/it @ the time?
Just a matter of time, one will turn up.
