Here's a few fram/cases that are mounted on my walls. Displaying pieces can and does require space. I've found these frames from michaels arts and crafts to work quite well for badges, medals, ribbons, etc. Excellent way to to be cognizant of space usage, and also they usually look nice. Each frame is about 1/3" deep, and comes with a foam bed insert. I just add a piece of black material to really add contrast and depth to the display. It helps to showcase the badges and crosses.

2- KM and Heer war badge display. I've played with various configurations to see what displays best. I have a KM blockade badge on the way that i'll have to squeeze into the display.

3- Some Israeli Defense Forces items from the 50's and 60's.

I've wall mounted edged weapons in past, but without the custom dagger frames, it just doesn't look quite right. For my blades, I've stuck with using display racks inside display cases.

The small frames run about $12.99 and the large frames about $19.99. Periodically Michaels has 50% off sales. I should stock up on them next time they have the special. I'm always adding to the collection, and having a few extra wouldn't be a bad idea. I believe that these can be purchased from michaels.com if you don't have one in geographic area.

I could not find them on Michaels on-line. What do they call them?

I can't tell you because I don't know. Try under frames or shadow boxes. In store, that's the section they are located in. They may indeed not sell them online. Thier online store is not neccessarily reflective of thier in store inventory.

Here is a golf ball display case I bought from Michaels, made a few custom changes, and now it' used to display sake cups.

The largest size display case Michaels sells. This particular case would be very effective for anyone with a significant badge collection. If I were to use it for the war badges, i'd still utilize black cloth as a background to add both depth and contrast for the gilted badges.

Swordfish what type of black material do you use as backgroaund? Also does the foam background support the badges effectively? thanks

Overall yes. The foam does. It works because the depth is only about 1/3". This way, the badges are pressed against the glass, but not with too much force. The hardware assembly is protected in the foam backing. The only difficulty I've had is the EKs. The EK1's have some challenge staying in place. I use the pin to sort of hold them in place. Not pinned through, but just sort of catching a bit of material with the pointed part of the pin. The material itself is an old shiny type shirt, rayon material, cut to fit the frame. Nothing fancy, but it works quite well.

Very nice Tom!
And I thought that you were just a long blade man.
That war badge display is impressive.
I like to use war badges in my dagger displays when I can find one that works well with the piece.
My cases come from BlueGrass Case Company...

...they're pricey, but well made.

Hi Bob,
Thank you for the nice words. Badges are a newer interest for me. I'm sort of putting sabers and daggers down for a bit to try something new. A little change can be a good thing and certainly it's fun to learn and study a new core collecting area. I'm sure i'll be back to the sabers before long.

Those are really nice display cases. Mine are much less fancy, and accordingly, the price is much less. I ended up buy a few too many and am selling some on WAF. They are nice, easy and very effective for displays.

Anyway, good collecting,
T

Today I added a KM blockadge breaker to my badge display. We have been discussin collector burnout in the community section above. I guess badges are sort of keeping me going until I rekindle the excitement for edged weapons.

Blockade Breaker?
I didn't know about that one.
Does that mean that you now have a complete set of KM war badges, or are there others that I don't know about?

Best Regards,
Robert

Not quite yet Bob. I still need a U Boat and an S Boat. Unfortunately those will have to wait. I'm putting all purchases aside for awhile because of the various financial implications of a possible recession. I had an opportunity to buy a nice zinc u boat yesterday at a nice price....but had to err on the side of sanity and pass her up.

Thanks Paul. I'll mail them your way when I get tired of this old junk Wink. It's sort of like "collector recycling". We're all doing our part to combat waste landfill crowding. Razz
