Hi.
This is my first topic on this great forum.

I have just bought this chained SS dagger.
Opinions on it?
Good or bad?
Whats it worth?
Looks like the "portopé" has never been removed.
I know its not a mint one but i like the aged look.

Thanks
Johan

Hello Scharfschütze,

Value is around 6000EUR, 60000SKR or 9000USD if no problems.

Hello Scharfschütze,
IMO I would say that it is more in the range of $4500 to $6000 USD if it is 100% legit. It has some condition problems that will lower the price.

I am NOT very experienced in the many varations of these kind of daggers but I see three points which I would have liked to be answered by a true expert of these daggers:

. for me the chain is a Type 2 one and the mark (wrongly explained as "Kulturzeichen") on the chain obviously looks to me like one for a Type 1 chain.

. for me the tip of the blade looks much too pointed.

. for me the motto looks too close to the crossguard.

The deep proof mark on the chain is Ok for a later plated type II. The motto can be higher on these. 25mm or a touch less is Ok. The shape of the blade does look too pointed, but it may be the angle of the photograph. Everything else looks to be original.

I have not seen that deep mark on a type 2 chained dagger either. I also think the blade tip is way too pointed and I would place the value of this rig around $4,500-$5,500 with most of the value in the scabbard. The RZM cross guards are just eating themselves alive and it detracts seriously from the value. I have sold several of the chained SS daggers over the last couple of years and sometimes the price is just not there. Condition is everything and this example has a few plier marks on the links and generally is on the lower end of the pricing scale. That is my personal opinion and I only wanted to contribute to this thread based upon my personal experience.
