Very nice, but it's NOT MINT and Paul doesn't represent it as such.

Mr Nolan:

If I could lend you 21k, the dagger would be mine.

Well Paul has it listed as Mint- and I don't think your going to find much better in todays marketplace. I know where there are two more of these that are a bit nicer but not at 21k, no way.

That is a huge leap in price for a Himmler, mint or not. They were $12,000 just a year or two ago.
Maybe it will go to EUROpe? Big Grin

Good buy for those guys.

Great observation from Kingtiger, couple of years ago with the rate at £1=$1.5 a $12k dagger would have cost £8k, now you can have that one for £11k, take into account inflation and the condition of the piece not a bad buy for a UK collector given the current popularity of SS daggers.

I don't know what it's like over there in States, but money is getting really tight over here, everyday living costs are going through the roof, Diesel has just hit £6 a gallon that's almost $12, I reckon it will have a knock on effect as far as collecting goes. It's happened before, for a few years collecting anything becomes the playground of the rich as Joe Average struggles just to live. If you're young enough time to tuck the collections away for a few years till things get better. I don't know how Mongo fared selling off his entire collection, I just think its a bad time to part out anything.

Glad I got mine before these prices started! Gailen stated he had 10 at one time (many years ago) I was lucky to obtain one of his thru another collector/dealer. Wittmann stated these were selling for 5k in 1980.

Nolan,
Here in the states IMO the hobby has also slowed due to the economy. See any of the "For Sale" sections at the forums, it's a telling story.
The average guy is being squeezed. The well-to-do are doing still good. The stock market although softening has not affected them as much.
As far as this 21K Himmler...a lot of money for a collector in the U.S. or in the British Commonwealth but not for a collector in Moscow or St. Petersberg.
The MAX show in October should be very interesting to see how sales go.

-Nice Himmler there Eric. Eek
That photography looks very familiar. A JR piece perhaps?

Absolutely stunning dagger. Way out of the league of many collectors but there are always those with money regardless of the economic climate. Would I buy it if money was no object?
Very probably!

Serge, sign of the times I guess, this is what I meant though, people sell out when times get tough and that's the worst possible time to part out. I reckon for a time rich speculators will have a ball, ho hum such is life.

Landser, there will always be the super rich who can afford anything they desire, is there any satisfaction in that?? you bet there is Wink

Cheers

Nolan

I get my stuff by buying and selling, always trying to upgrade to a better dagger. It takes time and money BUT if you would have asked me if I would EVER own a Himmler SS dagger I would have laughed in your face. It's done by hard work, risk and a little luck. Just like anything else in life.
