The fit and step might not be an issue. You need to remember that a dagger is a collection of parts that was assembled. Something about that grip looks fake though. Maybe the fact there is no wear and not a mark on it and it looks like someone has sanded it gently to remove a new finnish.

Here is a poor fitting grip aquired directly from the SS guy that owned it (who was still alive). So they did make them a bit poorly sometimes!

Hi Mongobongo!
I agree with everything you have said and I do think there is a good chance the grip is fake. I have had many daggers with a poor fit where the sides of the grip join the cross-guard. However, the fit of the top or bottom of the grip to cross guard has always been excellent unlike this one.
