I have just found this very strange British FS knife with an SS modification. I suppose this one was captured and reused by an SS soldier. Did you see this before? Thanks from paul

Wow,
Thats an interesting combo, a genuine 2nd pattern F&S fighting knife comandeered and period adapted. I would presume that this would be highly collectable to F&S specialists as the pattern 1 / 2 have been going for silly money recently on EBAY, and with these additions makes it unique to say the least. Part of the sheath also appears to be from the original issue, can anybody identify the top half?.
Thanks for showing Smile

Thanks for your reactions. I collect SS tunics and will ad this one to my SSLAH officer. I also have a small FS-knife collection and this is IMO a nice wartime variant. The original scabbard has indeed been altered to fit a German belt. I do not know if this piece is really valuable because the knife itself is heavy used and will be worth Euro 200 without the alteration.

British FS fighting knife + Unknown German swaz + old but strange scabbard + Japanese bayonet frog = Vet or collector with too much spare time, a blow torch and some solder Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

Seriously, FS knife field modified by an SS Mann is a stretch of the imagination but maybe possible. But with a Japanese bayonet frog ? ...

Hello Dave, thank you for your comment. Enclosed I have a picture of an normal 2nd pattern FS-knife. As you can see only the top part of the frog has been modified, is this part of Japanese origin? I cannot imagine that these days any person would modify this type FS dagger with a value of $200,- with an SS eagle of $300,-.

Your F/S scabbard is stuck in a jap frog. the frog looks modified just a bit to get a part of the leather scabbard to fit through the buckle. That must keep the scabbard in place. I dont know what the orgin of your eagle is? maybe some other members can say i cant. The whole rig is a mis-match of WW II era stuff. as to why someone did it Dave nailed it. I would guess that when it was done the price of sykes fighter was nill to not much. Is it SS? well I would think no. A GI or vet put together more the case. If you like it on a uniform thats cool. I am sure some collector would be shocked that someone goofed up a Jap frog also. Kinda like a nickled P38 a few of us have been watching most collectors are repulsed I like the fact that some vet nickled the P38 and the mag. most are still in the bummed out group. If you like your fighter this way cool but is it SS? you will have a hard time swinging that debate with any SS collector. my thought on this are: the scabbard looks a bit like a australian bayonet scabbard due to the lower fitting the bayonet guys may know right off on that. without the eagle/swaz I would go for field modified south pacific WW II era fighter. in the warm moist climate down in those parts thin leather like on the upper F/S scabbard wouldnt hold up to much field use and tends to rot quickly. I would think the eagle would have then been added after the war. Just my thoughts, my best, Bret

I agree with Cog Hammer. Someone has played with this. A jap Hanger with a SS cap Eagle that someone modified (cut the wings down to fit the crossguard) spray painted it copper brown and stuck it on the crossguard trying to pass it off as an SS knife.

Never argue with an idiot, he will only drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

I would say vet modified "trench Art" I really like oddball pieces like this, as long as the price is reasonable
