A recent eBay auction saw this dagger sell for $1675 ! The blade is a reproduction.

The trademark is much too far away from the crossguard and too much off-center to be real.

Possibly, someone has tried to onbscure a gau mark.

The motto is either much too large or the blade is much too narrow.

He was also selling a reproduction SS Rohm blade. It was priced at $1900 but did not sell

The trademark is centered but is still too far away from the guard.

The motto looks like the correct size.

Dave, You see this kind of thing all the time! Fakes will sell High and a fair Original won't bring $400. It is pretty baffling. I feel like this, All of the flaws and red Flags we see go over on E-bay constantly could be, for the most part, easily weeded out if the person would just buy 1 or 2 books and do a little reading for his hobby! Volume 1 by Johnson is a great basic book that pretty much has examples of everything. If people won't spend less than what a pommel nut costs for one of these daggers in order to gain a little knowledge, Then they are the fakers legitimate Prey! IMHO

nats,

I have given up warning people about eBay. In the old days I sent them messages. Most of them thought you were trying to steal the dagger away from them.

I don't look at eBay often, but came across the above in the completed section. I posted it so guys can learn what the fakes looked like.

Hi Dave, I understand what you mean about warning people, when I have contacted people to say they were bidding on a fake. I got emails back saying I was trying to get them to retract their bid,so as I could get it cheaper,So now I have given up warning people ,unless they have a very low feedback.
regards nats

Anything informative is worth sharing, especially when it comes to fakes. If I recall correctly, the same seller had a second SS dagger for sale which was a "non-Rohm." I believe it was also an "Eickhorn." The one Dave posted was immediately spotted as a fake because of the placement of the trademark, which led to further scrutiny of it. Anyone with basic knowledge of "Eickhorn" Rohm daggers should have picked up on the "flag" right away. I didn't bother much with looking at the other dagger because I figured there were problems with it also. It will be interesting to see how many more fake SS daggers the seller will unload on eBay and for what prices.

Grump,

They are both above. The regular one sold for $1600+. The fake Rohm did not sell.

As I said, I came across it after the auction closed.

eBay changed the software. You cannot contact bidders any more.

Do you think its a reddick blade Dave? it looks consistent with the fake Himmler pattern that he is currently selling.

Dave and nats... eBay has changed their software. You need to be in a current transaction with a member to contact them. if not, eBay will still go through the motions and then will ask you to input the verification number that they give you at the end of it. I can only assume it's eBay's way of trying to stop spamming. Then, it's the luck of the drawer whether they forward your email on or not. It either goes through or they say they cannot process your request at the time and to try again later.

Sorry i should clarify that statement - makers mark is bushy tailed and the gap to the crossguard appears the same.

I agree, seeing the fakes helps build that fund of knowledge, even if this particular sale is over. Thanks for posting!

I found a pic of what i was rabbiting on about. As you can see the makers mark is the bushy tail as per the above posts. Also of note is the spacing to crossguard and of course the dot in Himmler Big Grin
