Some of you old timers might know the origin of this one. Got it out a Vet family and yes he dabbled in the stuff after the war, but understood quit going to gun shows in the 70's.

The Blade looks like a a straight Eickhorn Heer blade, an original scabbard modified with flush mounted side screws.

The pommel and a crossguard are very heavy and it throws it out of balance.

The grip is wood core.

Any thoughts?

Regards, Jeff

This looks like one of the 'prototype' SS High Leader daggers shown in Bowman's and Stephenson's books. Whatever it is there aren't many of them extant so hang onto it for rarity value if nothing else. Nice find.

Don't own either book, but would make sense it's in there.

You can note nice eagle shadow patina in photo three, it's a nice silver scabbard.

I knew it was a very uncommon one, I got offered quick money for it, but passed. Have never seen one turn up in years of collecting. Good looker.

Attwood shows one similar but with grip similar to first Luft and a leather covered scabbard and damascus blade supposedly one of three made as prototypes by Paul Dinger at Dachau
Pommel crossguard and ferrule identical to what you show
So probably an Attwood fantasy piece from the 60s and quite collectable nice find congrats

I photographed one similar to this one for my Calendar series back in nthe early 90's. Tom Johnson owned it at the time. I don't have a scan of it right now but if any member has a '90 or '91 calendar feel free to post it. Tom's scabbard was different and it had a damascus blade. His grip was black leather with triple wire wrap as I remember.
You might want to hold on to the one you have until you thoroughly check it out.
