Wikipedia says the organization existed 1893-1933 (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutschnationaler_Handlungsgehilfen-Verband). Wouldn't the national colours shield make the ring 1918 or earlier?

Rare ring odal!! The 3rd reich one was the same but with swastika in center [even rarer!]..
Yours could be as BB mentions 1918,, to upwards of the late 1920s as it doesn't look like an early piece..You'd have to really do research to see when that Org. fell into control of the Nazis...
