Posted this ring up on another forum but there has been little response.

I'd like to hear from you guys. Raymond, Gaspare, what are your thoughts?

Unlike the other ring that i posted earlier with its worn our runes, this one has runes clearly visible and I need help in identifying if they are okay as I dont have any rings on hand to compare.

Will appreciate all your kind help please. Thank you Gentlemen.

Looks like a good one to me.Classic early 30's ring. Joseph Erlmeier has a low SS number 475. I would like to know what year when he first recieved his ring.

Whats been so difficult about it ?.I think it is worthy of sending it to Don Boyle for a COA if the price is right. You will need that for any ring you are planning to buy or sell anyway.Where do you come across these rings.

Militarymania, thank you for writing in. Could you tell me what about the engraving that you don't like? perhaps a certain alphabet or the depth of engraving or something else? which ring did you compare this to?

As for the outer details, again which feature did you not like about it?

I'd like to go into a detailed discussion so that we can exchange opinions.

Zorro - yes, I will want to send the ring to Don for it to be papered if i decide to get it. I believe in doing some self research and asking the opinions of others before spending $250 for the COA. I'd like more comments on this ring please.

Zorro:

Not to mention that giving the fakers information on how to make better fakes is not in anyone's best interests at all, unless one is a fraudster, of course.

what zorro wrote has been disheartening. if this is true then maybe it is the reason why the discussion on the ring has stalled. I have had mixed feelings and comments on the ring now.

That hole behind the skull appears to be a casting void and located right about where the sizing seam would be if there was one present. Now what does this tell you?

The ring is fake. The leaf patterns don't match the known pattern for a 30's band. Besides, the top border is much too wide.

Mil, I know that money is always a factor when purchasing a high end piece such as a ring but IMO I would save my money to get a good shape original ring from someone like Andy or John Pepera. You do get what you pay for and you will have no doubts on it's authenticity. JMO.

Erich,

I have been in touch with both guys. Andy has not gotten back to me of late.

I think getting these rings are far a greater challenge than a BO. (I have never had the BO badge, but what do you think?)

Mil, I agree with you that rings may be more difficult to tell the good from bad because the fakes are getting better that's why a DB COA is essential if you ever decide to sell it. As far as Blood Orders go a fake to fool an educated collector has not been produced as of YET.

Why don't you pursue the ring you posted on the 16th? The name is Wepp.....? I can't see the whole name. Don Boyle looked at photos of that ring and liked it. I liked it as well. How much is it? Where is it?

Weppler's ring is badly worn and does not have any runes. If we just compare based on engraving, Weppler will be okay.

But I'd like to seek a better ring and I thought this ring here on this post would be a better choice. The style of engravings look ok to me and so does the skull. the problem is that now when these runes are visible here, they become a pot of contradictions with conflicting statements all over. Could you ask Don Boyle to look at this ring?

Gaspare - I think the ring with the pock marks and resizing was a different ring. "Military" has shown 4 different rings. This one, the resized one with the pock marks, a 30's one with "Military" stamped all over the photo, and a 1938 Weppler ring that both Don Boyle and I saw pics of, and liked. Don Boyle has also seen photos of this ring and Don said it has red flags. Red flags mean bad. You already know he doesn't like it. Why pursue this ring if Don doesn't like it, and ignore the Weppler ring he said looked OK? (from the photo). Oh, that's right, it's scratched. My bad. If you buy this ring, you can always say, "Well Don Boyle doesn't like it, but what in the hell does HE know???!!! And then you can contact JR to get you a minty new one.

Josias, there were three rings that were posted and they all had different purposes.

Ring A (Weppler's): to identify if the engraving style was correct. The outer runes are badly worn, so there is no discussion on the runes.

Ring B (pockmarked): I came across this ring with a pockmarked inner band and wanted to know where this pockmarking came from.

Ring C (Erlmeier's): I was quite keen to purchase this piece. To me the engraving style looks ok. I posted this to ask about the runes as well as the single pockmark as seen on the inner band. It is a tricky piece now that nearly all the runes are visible and thus needed some opinions on it. Ric Ferrari on WAF has said that this ring was offered on GDC recently.

3 Questions: 1. Where are the rest of the pics of RING "B"? 2. What is the name in RING "B"? 3. What happened to the ring you posted on July 6? It's a 30.6.34 ring with the name "Raheiert", or whatever.

- confusing,,have a good time with them guys..

Military,,save up and buy the best condition ring you can get your hands on. And, just when you think your ready stop,,and save up more, ,a year if need be! Get the very best example possible...
It should have Dons CoA. IF it doesn't make it one of the conditions of sale for it to pass Dons authentication..

In the future to avoid confusion,,since most of us are all on the same forum sites try and make one topic per ring on one site,,don't worry eventually everyone will see it.

I agree 100% with Gaspare save for the best example that you can and with Don's COA you can sleep well with your purchase. "I DO!"
