The initial “AS” mean Aufklärungsgruppe See 88 ( Exploration(?) Maritime in Spain, Mallorca).
This is a heavy ring and not marked.

Benten,,Congratulations! This is a well known ring to ring collectors and also to Condor Legion collectors.. They came in a few different patterns,,yours being one of the real deluxe ones! It is stunning!!

I've seen a bunch and handle a few,,also I procured one very similar like this for a friend last year..
Heavy,, gold,, great detail and workmanship, a ring that has eluded me so far!

Very glad you got one and have showed us... Really,,an excellent piece for your collection..Thanks again for showing us! , G.

Gaspare thank you!
As you said it's really a beauty. See the backgroud punch work around the skull, you really need "small" and very skilled hands.
I heard that there exist variations. These rings have ruby eyes and without side text Condor Legion.

I'm very happy to have it.It's my pleasure to show it.

Benten, Here's my friends.. A well worm example like the one you mention.
I will have 2 more variations in the book. Another with a bunch of engraving inside band,,another with stones on the sides..

They are beautiful, striking looking rings! Yours is certainly one of the high grade examples....

Thank you Joe.

A question about the number "88". Some people suggested that the "88" has a meaning; the 8th letter of the alfabeth stands for the "H" so the meaning of "88" is "Heil Hitler"? I know that neo's do use it, but I have never heard of it in the NS-period......

B.,,we used to have a great old topic on this..

AS/88 is for the four squadrons of that naval reconnaissance group in Spain..

Here's the others:

S/88: General staff
J/88: Fighter group.
K/88: Bomber group.
A/88: Reconnaissance group.
LN/88: Aerial information battalion.
F/88: Anti-air battalion [flak]
P/88: Two Luftwaffe maintenance companies
