Pardon my ignorance guys-but I haven't been able to find out much info. on-line about the edelweiss pictured here. I've seen these with the swas. in center only on early SA kepi and wondered why the SA would have mountain troops when they were only in existance prior to the war as a political group. Hopefully, someone will help educate me on this. Thanks in advance for any information. Mike

Is was the traditions badge of SA group "Hochland", not really "mountain troops" but an SA (and NSKK) group that was based in the mountainous region of southern Germany. I am sure they were all good mountaineers in their own right, and probably went on to form GJ regiments as the war progressed. But again just more based on their location than their duties.
