I collected tags from the 70s until just recently [2001]. Saved about 50 or so of the best of my best but don't actively collect anymore..

Thats a rare original SS tag. Many have a generic font that is easy to copy/have made. Certain units had a specific , unique font to them..
This is one of them,,a well known tag to the tag collectors, and any original SS tag is rare and desirable!

depends how bad someone wants it! Wink

Is this tag broken? Looks like it might just barely be hanging together at the ends,,this affects value..
anyway,,
I've seen this tag at one of the large shows here in the states in good condition selling for $150.. Don't know if the dealer got the asking price...

There is a dealers site that has several original ss tags, prices are around 120.00 for one in a little better shape than yours .75.00-100.00 would be about it on yours.

I was offered an SS dog tag that was dug up and had been tested and had human dna on it and I still passed at 50 or 60 dollars as the fakes just killed the market...

John, it got to a point I was actually going to the digs in Ukraine helping my wife's cousins.. It was the only way I'd believe a tag..

One summer one of the guys found about a half full set of the stamps. They were in good condition and even had the box and litte hammer in it! Neat thing to have in a collection...

Well the following summer at a military show a dealer is selling all sorts of rare SS tags.. I asked about them and my family member said 'no touch!'...
Later on he went on to tell me the guy bought the half full set of stamps from them then invested in having the rest of the set duplicated!! that's it,,end of game for me..
When I got home I sold 90% of my tags...
I only kept some really rare SS and only the really well known ones and ones like this one with unique fonts. I kept in all about 50 tags and no longer buy any unless its something really weird, or with a great provenance.....

There are some real 'artists' out there,,tags, especially SS are the worst minefield in our collecting hobby to date..

Hi guys.I was wondering how this dog tag was read. Were serial numbers not included to ident an individual soldier or were they more concerned with a specific unit count. Thanks.

This site suspends and bans the best people in the hobby but somehow misses these blatant spammers to polute with their Pakistani junk. Confused
