Eric,,, Looks like this is on a vertical dagger hanger,if it is the SS dagger boys will be able to tell you more perhaps, there is even a collector that just collects these,,,
These hangers are getting copied and I would assume its not a great feat to make a stamp for them!
I must admit though from what I see it looks good! Just beware of the stampings after the date of 39'

Thanks Mann,The marking is on the front of the case is that an unusual place?Should it be on the back?Does that make it suspect,I cant imagine its a repo, anyone know the maker of the compass MK?

Ok, I know 0 about SS compasses. But, these markings look very suspicious. RZM markings were usually very subtle -- they are just approval stamps and manufacturer's codes. That's why they are small, go on the inside, underside, etc.

This is stamped on here to virtually SCREAM "Buy me! This is an SS item!!!"

As a propriety item, it's hard to imagine the SS manufacturing and stamping a case for a compass that would have come from the original manufacturer with one..

Thanks Kursk! The ss didnt manufacture anything they bought everything and the maker of this compass could be the same maker as the code on the case.I have seen army compasses and all have 3 letter code such as cof etc. This is not an army compass but is more likly by looking at the quality an ss procurment.Anyway its a vet bringback and you can tell the compass and case have been together forever. Can anyone show me a fake ss stamp like this one?

You would have to do more research and talk to some hard core collectors that know SS markings on equipment The SS marked alot of there leather stuff in the early days before the war. Thanks Joe Semen

ERICK-
I HAVE OWNED SEVERAL IDENTICAL COMPASSES OVER THE YEARS. ALL CAME IN VET LOTS. I STILL HAVE ONE I KEEP WITH MY HUNTING GEAR. UNFORTUNATELY, NONE CAME WITH THE CASE. THE PIECE HAS THAT ORIGINAL LOOK ABOUT IT FROM THE PHOTOS.

I am not to keen with the year of 1934 and all of the rest connected with 1934. For my thoughts the clear concepts of the RZM came somewhat around beginning 35 out for such equipment items and markings.
Maybe I am wrong but other stamps of 1934 would be interesting to see.

Robert,

I think the RZM was active earlier. There are quite a few SS vertical hangers stamped 1934. Look in Wittmann's book. Also daggers like 120/34, 121/34.

Thanks Guys I really appreciate the info! Smile There is not a lot of info out there about these that I could find. Here are some close ups of the cases construction, very well made. The runes have a ribbed pattern, see close up.The leather does not have that new smell and has the correct age,no doubt in my mind its from 1934.

The compass is a civilian model, and if used by the SS would have come through alternate procurement avenues.

Btw..the SS did in fact make items, mostly smaller ones granted, not all was brought in..
