It looks to me like photos from a Military Police accident investigation. Note that last picture is a swimmer.

You know what I bet your right because the pictures are numbered and it would make more since why a guy has his head resting against a railroad crossing guard, and there is also holes in the pictures like it was in a binder of some sort(accident report book), and also these were from my grandfathers late brother and I know he was an MP. Thanks for the idea it sounds correct to me.

Adam,

That is exactly what it is. After looking through these, I am 99% certain that here is what took place:

1. Schiwmmwagen # SS 305229 was moving at a high rate of speed and attempted to get through a set of automated railroad crossing gates as they were decending.

2. SS 305229 made it past the near side barrier but the far side barrier impacted the car just in front or on top of the steering wheel. It probably killed the driver.

3. The far side barrier was broken off, either by the steering wheel, the hollow tubes that support the roof, or more likely by the raised propeller mechanism at the rear of the schwimmwagen.

4. The car skidded to the left, and hit a kilometer marker so hard that the marker was torn from the ground, then flipped on to its left side and came to a stop.

5. the Military Police were sent to investigate. They used a Kubelwagen SS# 915072 to recreate the scene of the accident.

This is the story in the pictures. Using YOUR picture numbers, here is what I see:

1. The wrecks as found, minus the driver. Note the torn out kilometer marker in the lower left of the shot.

2. Re-creation of the pole decending, but using a Kubelwagen #SS915072. They had to use the remaining pole on the nearside of the tracks. Note the insigna on the car's door. MP or Unit markings ? Worth researching !

3. Re-creation from the front.

4. MP(?) posed as at the moment of impact. (Could that man be your great-uncle?)

5. The wreck as found, with skid marks painted white.

6. Same as 5, but further back. Note the bent/broken far side barrier along the road. That is one big barrier !

7. MP laying in the wreck where the driver was found.

8. Kilometer marker torn out of the ground with the vehicle pulled back upright.

9. Same as 7, but from the front.

10. Same as 9, but without the MP

11. Same as 8, but from the rear.

From the trees lining the street, the house, the kilometer marker, plus the presence of a modern automated RR crossing, I would guess France or Belgium.

Anybody see something else ?

Dave
