I have reserved this catalog as part of a group of items. I believe it to be period issue? Also I figure around $200.00? Thanks for comment, Pauli

Mann, Did you get a chance to flip thru it? They have been reprinting them for many years. The early reprints are very good. Same print, paper, even binding.
Mine is from the 1970s and has a black sprial binding.

My copy has a English openning statememnt on the first page,,on its back though is the price list for 'Wehrmacht - Reichsheer'. Check yours and if its missing that page it is probably an early copy with that page torn out..
Be careful.. Hopfully another member will come on with better tips on how to tell the difference between the orig. and early reprints..

Unfortunately the comb binding shows that it's one of the post war copies, taken from the assembled pages of original Assmann catalogs purchased by James P. Atwood in the early 1960s.

These were rebound with new covers and were accompanied by his letter of explanation. These bound catalogs are not complete & many of the pages are missing. The Atwood's cover pattern was duplicated on at least two subsequent reprints of the catalogue which were bound with plastic spiral bindings.

Thanks guys! I have some points for criteria now! The pictured catalog is "NOT!" the one that I have reserved. Cool (It is just the "closest" for discussion purposes.) I did "leaf through" mine. The pages seem to have the right "yellowing" to be period. I seem to remember it to be ALL in German. The group also includes a neat RAD pole topper/trench art piece with a tank radiator-cap base! I hope to get my hands on the "goods" next week! I seem to remember a typical binding, now that you mention it. Valuable 411! Thank you Don and Mr. G!

Thanks to Kenneth @ WAF for the use of his photo!, I apologize for any misunderstanding regarding my statement regarding this particular "copy" of the catalog. Thanks to Don also for your expertise. I hope to answer these questions,(and maybe some others not yet raised) in the next week or so when I take possession of it. Also, my earlier description of the "trench art" was a bit off. The pole topper/finial is a DAF gear swaz, with a tank? rad.(radiator)cap base. Anyway.. I'll post pics when possible. Cheers, Pauli

As far as I'm aware, all the original Assmann catalogues were bound using small screw poles so that pages could be regularly updated (added or removed). This way they did not need to re print the whole catalogue each time there was a change.

I personally feel (although others disagree) that Assman never used this Swastika design on their covers, these are all post war. Original Assmann covers were green with a simple outline figure of an officer plus the Assmann symbol.

The pages that Atwood used in his versions were original loose pages bought from the Assmann company postwar & compiled with his new "Nazi" design cover. Others printers have copied it since.

Therefore an "Atwood Assmann" catalogue will have yellow aged pages because they are original, but it will not be complete, & sometimes show items from several editions or dates in the same book which can be misleading if trying to ascertain a date reference for an item.

Cheers
Don

I received the catalog today. It has a black typical hardback binding. After the cover page the page number begins at "8", page 16,16a,16c and 89 is last page. Some of the pages are loose, some are of different dimensions. All are printed only on one side. I am guessing that this may be an "Atwood" edition as you described. Thank you to all who have replied. I will post a photo when possible. Cheers, Pauli

The binding, in actuality, is "pebbled".
