Thought about starting a topic of unusual medals and badges so lets see whats out there. Anyone have any that are out of the mainstream of collecting such as combat and civil awards out there that you just don't see or there is little or no info on? Let's see them.

My Blue Division medal came wrapped in paper in a black packet that drew moisture and the finish is gone. My example is an alloy metal that likes to grow a little green on the edges when I am not looking. Smile

Although I have posted this before, it is unusual. I picked it up on e-bay many years ago without any idea what it was. The seller had no idea either. After spending hours leafing through books, I posted it here. Even Mr.Stump was "stumped" until a friend of his came up with the answer.
It is the pin of a flak-commandant aboard one of the KdF ships like the "Cap Arcona" and "Robert Ley". The pin was worn only for a short time as flak-guns were placed aboard the KdF ships just after the war broke out.The crew of the KdF-ships were merchant-navy that got training in handling the flak-guns and this pin is their qualification badge.Shortly there-after the ships came under the control of the navy and the crew was replaced by a Kreigsmarine crew. I can't imagine that many of these pins survived or were even issued.

Hello,
Nice items. Don, that service pin for the mines is a real beauty. I had a chance to buy a few of them a number of years ago but unfortunately passed on it. Very impressive looking items.

Don,

Great to see both those items again, both are special. While I do love the mine stickpin, that cased fire medal is really top notch.

Fritziii, I have only heard of one other collector ever seeing one of these.I just took it out of the case and looked at it again, it appears that it may have had a gold or bronze finish at one time.It is unmarked on the back and the needle is not serated like many are.If I recall, Mr.Stump's friend was from europe and had not seen many of them.

Janjan, interesting item! I am not very indepth on German wappen.
A starting place for research might be Westfalen (Province). They used the rampant white horse on a red field.

Early civil? Factory?

Nice looking items all! Looking forward to seeing more. I can't think of a thing I have to add.
Would anyone have a complete Customs Service Cross? They are interesting well made and not a common item. I have the cross sans ribbon and do not feel it's worth showing, the ribbon with embroidered emblem enhances this award.

Hi janjan,
Not sure what this pin is but if I had to guess and look at the horse something related to the City Stuttgart in Baden-Würtenberg. The Eagle possible NSKOV? Maybe do some surging in that area and you may find something. JME

JME, good thought, crossed my thoughts also but Stuttgart's wappen is a black horse on a gold field.

Janjan, very nice looking insignia. It's always a great thrill to find something not seen before. Even better when you find out what it is.
Joe do you mean a Customs long service cross?

Closest I came to a complete rig was a cased example, but I had no money so did not ask value. That was probably 20 years ago!

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys, glad you liked it. I see police ones from time to time but not Customs. I need one more to complete another cross I have. probably will be looking for a long time.
Don that's a great 1944 Reichssieger badge. The only 1944 one I have is a Gausieger by G. Brehmer. What's the makers on yours Don?
