hi i am a dagger collecter and about 3 weeks ago i found the us badge in the pic ,i was told by the antique dealer< and it was the only military item on the stand >that it was given to his friends dad as a gift from adolf to some government officials to prove the friendship between the us and germany, made by deschleir and sohn, real great detail and a top item i loved it,well i run an add and have just picked up a gov official with knot and hangers with gold wash the only other item with this find was the other badge uk version same maker but done in a different style, the guy had checked after the badge but not the dagger ,strange but good ,he had been told no one had evar seen the type before same comment as the antique dealer,i suppose this is where you guys tell me the truth and they are worth ten bob and there are millions around, please let me know the truth .i love them and enjoy the lucky coincdences of this hobby so they are keepers but what are they and there value ,as i might consider swapping them for an early ss chained hehehehehehe.the other great part to this is even adolf made mistakes and i believe from my poor german that it says given for german british friendship,on both maybe no one told him about independance day then and the us lag belongs to our dear allies
.thanks dippy |

I've always questioned these type badges as being originals, or ever existed in the first place.

The "American" one with the British slogan should tell you enough - modern clumsy fake. Also, the pinplate used on it (oval with clipped ends) was never used on period badges - only on modern copies.
As for the one marked "Deschler", these have been around for years and sold through the usual suspects in varying quality. Most doubt they ever existed and consider them a post-war fantasy. They don't appear in any period literature that I know of or in any photos. Your copy has the sunken enamel (especially between the flags) of modern enamel work with different materials. Period badges were over-filled and polished down to a smooth surface - modern techniques fill the badge and let it harden, during which process it shrinks slightly. I would pass on both without hesitation. Cheers, Stephen Gold Party Pin Website: http://www.geocities.com/goldpartypin RZM Codebook: http://www.goldenpheasant.biz |

absolutely fantastic info thanks a real help for me the novice when out there hunting, the us flag one looks like the polished even type and the uk one is sunken between the flags, they cost me £25 each so in amongst my daggers they look fine for that price, were there any other variations eg french italian, i would love to find others and hope just like the npea staff leaders dagger ,opinions would change and i could still swap them for an ss chained lol.thanks everso for the info not worried at all about value just happy to know what i have.

Here's one that I traded to Mike Pinkus a few years ago, I've never seen another like it since. jamie > Ich bin krank < |

Nice pin Jamie, shame you traded it. This is a rare pin from the Fascist Culture Institute of Naples, "Teodoro Capocci".
The badge commemorates the signing of the ANTICOMINTERN pact between Germany, Japan & Italy in November 1937 (Germany & Japan had actually already formed an alliance a year earlier in '36, but Italy came on board in '37). Cheers Don "Much that once was, is lost, for none now live who remember it" Galadriel, LotR. |

Yeah Don, I knew that it was rare, but Mike's been good to me over the years and I owed him.
