I found this lead badge with leather string on the fleamarket. It's about 5cm high.

Backside...
Free translated it says:
The district of Brechtesgaden greets his Gebirgsjäger at the Wolchow.
War Christmas 1943.

Probably this was given to keep the moral still good there.
Any info is welcome. THANKS

Paul thanks for you reply. Possible a soldier could have worn it on a button on his chest cloth.

This lead Christmas-greeting 1943 shows directly a little piece of the history of the Berchtesgaden gebirgsjäger at the Wolchow.
I like these kind of little documents.
Thanks.

Gents,

It could've also made a spiffy addition to some officer's Wolchow-Stock ..? The lower-ranks Feldmarschall baton .. heh. Big Grin

My dad was stationed in the Nordabschnitt, starting winter 1942-43, when the first Tigers arrived, near Mga.

This is also the first time I've seen one of these decorations and must agree that it is unusual to say the least! Many thanks for letting us have a look.

Another fine addition to your first-rate collection. Smile

Much continued luck and best regards!

Bill

Benten,
An interesting item indeed. I have seen similar pieces and thought them to be rememberence private purchase items. (?) A great telling collectible. Cool Thanks for sharing it.

Hello Joe, Smile thanks for your idea ; it' s a possibility that these badges had to be bought as a souvenir.
Imo , I thought that they were given in Russia to the soldiers for free as a sign of moral support from the Kreis Berchtesgaden.

The value for these lead objects would be very low in those days.
