This one's a copy IMO. The easy sign with these is the grip emblem, the Swaz is solid, it should be recessed and filled with black enamel. The blade on these is also usually a red flag as the trademark is photo-etched and very shallow. These also never seem to have the hanger attached and often have no throat screw which is centered on the front of the scabbard.

Why did anyone make such a good copy and then make the RLB insignia at the grip without enamel? To show thats a copy?

Some fakers might still not have all necessary means and knowledge.
Also this one might be a parts dagger. But due to its overall condition and certain red flags imo it is obsolete to discuss honestly such scrap.
@ the doctor: for an enlisted man´s dagger it has the proper no-leather grip and the proper scabbard fittings. Normally there should be a leather hanger stationary fixed to the triangel of the scabbard.
Only the leader daggers (first and second model) do have leathered grips and scabbards.

Also, bare in mind that many of the early copies were not designed to deceive collectors or to be passed off as original, they were produced to be a representation of a period dagger. This is especially true of the early Spanish copies, they looked OK as an ornament but are technically full of mistakes, even with similar maker marks showing manufacture in Berlin, which is not valid.

Today's fakers have a different agenda, they are trying to make daggers good enough to fool buyers, especially when aged, there is a lot of interest and profit to be made if one can dupe buyers...
