Has anyone seen or heard of a WWII (1930's) German saber without a plated blade? Thanks!

Guess I should add the saber is the usually seen "nco" type with nickel-plated hilt, black plastic grip and wire wrap. My concern is the blade may have been plated, but because of age, etc., may have been ground/polished to remove corrosion, pitting, peeling, etc.

Normally they were nickel plated. As were dress bayonets. But the plating on late dress bayonet is often not present. That said, I don't immediately recall seeing unplated versions. (But would not be at all surprised if one turned up at the next show I attend.)

However, I think that what I would be looking at first is the plating on the hilt. If it's good then the blade is probably OK. If it's questionable then under the langets. Because that is where signs of reworking oftentimes are more visible.

PS: I've also seen blades that were polished to be (aftermarket) etched. So you can't be too careful, and strong magnification (usually) is very helpful. FP

Yes I've seen unplated blades on original 3rd Reich swords.
Rarely seen

Thanks very much. I don't possess this sword and the owner says the blade is unplated. In the photos, the finish appears similar to police and SS degen blades. This could be as "left the factory" or could be "enhanced" to remove problems. In the photos, I can see nothing untoward underneath the langets. There is a return privilege, so I have something to cogitate over. Ain't it fun?
