I recently acquired this Heer saber knot from a fellow collector at WAF. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time to snag this little green lady. Price wise...dirt cheap. She's brand new, never used, still retaining her original string securing the knot. It's seldom today that these pop up, and when they do, they have been commanding large dollars. I've seen a few mint, unissued knots on ebay sell for over $120..surprisingly. I'm somewhat reluctant to even unwrap and hang this one on a saber.

Not neccessarily the most appropriate thread, but I thought my Heer sword collecting brethren would appreciate this one.

Good collecting friends,
Tom

George-
You're right. I have to fight the impulse to attach her to a nice leopard head example that just looks sort of naked. In the end, this piece should be put away... Frown

I am the same way... I have to fight the urge to unwrap these factory tied minty examples. I agree, you should keep it in this condition and find another one to tie to your sword.

Yep, it's true. It's challenging to keep them tied and put away in a dark place to continue preserving the example. It's becoming difficult to find examples that are worthy of hanging at decent prices. I recall that even 3 or 4 years ago I was buying used examples in quite nice shape for $17 to $25 on ebay. Sometimes even a little less. That's just no longer the case.

I recently scored a Roon variety off fleaBay for a rock bottom price. It came with a knot, in pretty rough shape. I've spent the last week working the knot to halt the red-rot, and remoisturize the example so it can still function as an accoutrement on the Roon. It's indicitive of the saber knots these days. More often than "knot" they are in rough shape and require ressuciation, which is no fun what-so-ever.
