Are all portepee's on early model 1936 ss officer swords supposed to have a RZM tag on them?

I don't know for certain, Dean, but I beleive that's correct. However, you do see early portepees that probably had tags, but they were removed at some point.

The Portepee was original given with when the Degen was awarded (sword is anyhow not the right word!). Then the Portepee was also sold over the RZM distribution and also found in the SS-Kleiderkasse sales catlogs. In that way you find them original with the tag and also w/o the tag, and then also with removed tags. For an early given Degen I would expect to see the knot with the black RZM silk tag. But mostly you don't know what all happen to the original knot, maybe it was getting damaged or whatever and the owner just bought a new one 3 years later from the Kleiderkasse ...
